Preparing now means protecting your investment and avoiding costly repairs when spring hits. In this blog, we’re breaking down exactly what to do before the temperatures drop, from safeguarding your home’s systems to properly winterizing your dock and lift so everything is ready to go when the lake comes back to life. Let’s dive into the must-do steps to keep your property safe, secure, and winter-ready!

Plumbing & Water Systems

• ■ Shut off the main water supply to the house.

• ■ Drain all interior water lines (open faucets, flush toilets, drain water heater and holding tanks).

• ■ Blow out water lines with compressed air if possible—especially for homes left vacant.

• ■ Add RV antifreeze to all sink traps, toilets, tubs, and floor drains.

• ■ Disconnect and drain exterior hoses and shut off outdoor spigots.

• ■ Drain irrigation systems if you have sprinklers.

Heating & Electrical

• ■ Set thermostat to 50–55°F to prevent freezing pipes (or turn off heat if completely drained).

• ■ Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow heat circulation.

• ■ Unplug appliances and electronics or use surge protectors.

• ■ Turn off breakers to non-essential circuits (e.g., HVAC, water heater, washer/dryer).
